Health psychology

Module Overview

Originated by: Dr Krista Rothschild

Health psychology is the study of psychological and behavioral processes in health, illness, and healthcare. It is concerned with understanding how psychological, behavioral, and cultural factors contribute to physical health and illness. Psychological factors can affect health directly such as anxiety and stress and joy and excitement.

This module looks at the definition of health psychology and how it contributes to healthcare in the UK.

We will explore

  • What is health psychology?
  • A broad definition of health beyond the symptoms of illness
  • How this definition changes how we research and treat illness
  • What is the Biopschosocial Model?
  • How does it work?

We are continously working to improve and update our material to ensure it is meeting the needs of students and teachers alike.

We believe that some topics are approached more powerfully by bringing in animation. That is why some of the topics have videos to illustrate the learning points
