Anxiety and depression

Module Overview

Originated by Prof. Panos Vostanis

Children and adults experiencing depression and anxiety often display symptoms such as nervousness, irritability, eating and appetite issues, problems sleeping and concentrating. Everyone has their own causes, triggers and emotional and behavioural symptoms. This module looks at ‘worries and low moods” also known as anxiety and depression. It demonstrates how we all feel down sometimes, which is a perfectly normal part of being human, and explores what might cause these feelings and what we might do to deal with them.

We will explore

  • What is anxiety?
  • Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time
  • How we may experience anxiety
  • Signs of depression
  • What can be done to help?

We are continously working to improve and update our material to ensure it is meeting the needs of students and teachers alike.

This module includes

  • Lesson plan
  • PowerPoint presentation
  • Observation of thoughts worksheet
  • Reflection of thoughts worksheet
  • Teacher assessment
  • Anxious Angus and Depressed Debbie animation

We believe that some topics are approached more powerfully by bringing in animation. That is why some of the topics have videos to illustrate the learning points
