Cultural diversity

Module Overview

Originated by: Dr Felicia Rivera Megret

The phrase “cultural diversity” describes the wide variety of human societies or cultures in a specific region, or in the world as a whole.

There are many difference cultures and societies around the globe which differ markedly from each other. As well as the more obvious cultural differences that exist between people, such as language, dress and traditions, there are also significant variations in the way societies organize themselves, in their shared conception of morality, and in the ways they interact with their environment.

This module looks at the context of cultural diversity, why is intercultural education necessary, how we address the cultural needs of immigrants and cultural diversity in schools

We will explore

  • What is cultural diversity?
  • Why is intercultural education necessary?
  • Why is it important to address the cultural needs of immigrants?
  • What support should immigrants receive from schools?
  • How can everyone play their part in creating a positive environment for cultural diversity?

We are continously working to improve and update our material to ensure it is meeting the needs of students and teachers alike.

We believe that some topics are approached more powerfully by bringing in animation. That is why some of the topics have videos to illustrate the learning points
