Depression

Module Overview

Originated by: Dr Peter Petschner

Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person’s thoughts, behavior, tendencies, feelings, and sense of well-being. A depressed mood is a normal temporary reaction to life events such as loss of a loved one.

This module looks at providing the pupils with a basic understanding of depression, its symptoms and how to prevent it for themselves. Pupils will also explore an overview of how the brain works and how neurons play their part in feelings.

We will explore

  • What does depression look like?
  • Why do we get depressed?
  • How to avoid depression
  • An overview of the brain
  • What are neurons and how do they work?
