Empathy

Module Overview

Originated by Prof. Felicia Megret

Empathy is the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from within the other person’s frame of reference, i.e., the capacity to place yourself in “another person’s shoes”. In this module we look at empathy and what it means as an emotion.  We observe signs of empathy in ourselves and others to see how being empathic improves relationships and we learn how to cultivate empathy in ourselves.

We will explore

  • What is empathy?
  • Understanding empathy as an emotion
  • I hear you, you hear me
  • How empathy improves relationships
  • Cultivating empathy in ourselves

This module includes

  • Lesson plan
  • PowerPoint presentation
  • Observation of thoughts worksheet
  • Reflection worksheet
  • Teacher assessment

We believe that some topics are approached more powerfully by bringing in animation. That is why some of the topics have videos to illustrate the learning points
