Flight and Aviation

Module Overview

Originated by Dr. Michiel Schurmann

Aviation, or air transport, refers to the activities surrounding mechanical flight and the aircraft industry. Aircraft includes fixed-wing and rotary-wing types, morphable wings, wing-less lifting bodies, as well as lighter-than-air craft such as balloons and airships. These machines include aircraft such as airplanes, gliders, helicopters, autogyros, airships, balloons, ornithopters as well as spacecraft.

This fascinating module will look at the subject of mechanical flight at it’s use of a machine to fly.

We will explore

  • Air Transport
  • Air Traffic Control
  • How Planes Fly
  • Making Planes and Helicopters
  • Aviation Safety
