How we respond to things

Module Overview

Originated by: Dr Tomaz Budefield

In the second half of the 19th century, the term ‘stimulus’ was coined in psychophysics by defining the field as the “scientific study of the relation between stimulus and sensation” – in other words, how we respond to things.

The concept ‘stimulus’ is tied into our behaviour. A specific stimulus precedes a certain behavior and thus causes a response.

This module looks at the functions of the brain, the way the brain operates to execute those functions, and the way neuroscientists do research to figure out places in the brain that execute a particular function.

We will explore

  • A brief overview of the way the brain functions
  • How does it all work?
  • What is neuroscience?
  • How neuroscientists do research
  • What do neuroscientists aim to find out?
