Humility

Module Overview

Originated by: Dr Felicia Rivera Megret

Humility, in various interpretations, is widely seen as a personal virtue which centres on low self-preoccupation, or unwillingness to put oneself forward first. In many religious and philosophical traditions, it contrasts with self-absorption and other forms of pride, re-enforcing the interpretation of a personal virtue. This module looks at how humility can be defined and the different outcomes that can result from behaving with humility.

We will explore

  • What do we mean by humility?
  • Stories of acting with humility
  • Exploring what is meant by ‘pride comes before a fall’
  • Looking at modesty, pride and arrogance
  • Potential roll play and class discussion
