Moral development

Module Overview

Originated by: Prof Dimitar Elchinov

Moral development focuses on the emergence, change, and understanding of morality from infancy through adulthood. Morality develops across a lifetime and is influenced by an individual’s experiences and their behaviour when faced with moral issues through different periods’ physical and mental development.

In short, morality concerns an individual’s growing sense of what is right and wrong; it is for this reason that young children have different moral judgement and character than that of a grown adult.

This module looks at what is moral development, moral dilemmas and making decisions about what is right and wrong. It explores what is moral behaviour and how we develop our characters by behaving in a moral way.

We will explore

  • What is moral behaviour?
  • How can being moral guide your life?
  • Making moral decisions
  • Role play based on moral decisions
  • Class activities around moral dilemmas
