Sharing another person’s emotions

Module Overview

Originated by Dr Eduardo Santos

Sharing another person’s emotions is characterised by intense mental activity and pleasure or displeasure that mirrors that of another person.

Those acting primarily on the emotions they are feeling may seem as if they are not thinking, but mental processes are still essential, particularly in the interpretation of events.

This module looks at empathy and how it is shown, how it feels, and how it can be cultivated so that we understand each other better.

We will explore

  • What is empathy?
  • Understanding how empathy works
  • Practising empathy
  • Role play – tell me how you feel
  • Sharing suggestions on how to empathise better
