Stress management

Module Overview

Originated by Prof. Felicia Megret

Stress Management refers to the wide spectrum of techniques and psychotherapies aimed at controlling a person’s levels of stress, especially chronic stress, usually for the purpose of improving everyday functioning. The term ‘stress’ is often referred to as stress with significant negative consequences, rather than a stress whose consequences are helpful. Stress produces numerous physical and mental symptoms which vary according to each individual’s situational factors. These can include physical health decline as well as depression. The process of stress management is named as one of the keys to a happy and successful life in modern society. This module provides an overview on the different types of stress and provides some tools and techniques on how to manage the negative effects of stress when it has a detrimental effect on health and well-being.

We will explore

  • What is stress?
  • What happens in the body when we are stressed?
  • Looking at stressful situations
  • Looking at optimism and happiness
  • Suggestions for stress management
