Understanding our surrounding and our reality

Module Overview

Originated by: Dr Dimitar Georgiev

Understanding our surroundings and reality, is one of the ways by which we make sense of our world. This means the way we understand sensory information from our environments, or conceptualize abstract ideas such as cause and effect, truth and falsehood, or ideas regarding notions of good or bad.

This module looks broadly at our ability to self-consciously change, in terms of goals, beliefs, attitudes, traditions, and institutions, and therefore with the capacity for freedom and self-determination.

We will explore

  • How do we make sense of our world?
  • Linking sense making with philosophy
  • How do traditions help us today?
  • Thinking about creating our own traditions
  • Discussing alternative ways of seeing the world

We believe that some topics are approached more powerfully by bringing in animation. That is why some of the topics have videos to illustrate the learning points
